ژوئن ابری ترین ماه هاست:
نیمه شب در سانتا مونیکا
رواندازی مخملی بر سر شهر می کِشد
و بامدادان
پرده ای از مِه
در برابر آفتاب می آویزد.
من حُزنِ ژوئن را دوست دارم
و ابهام ابر را
از صراحت آفتاب
بیشتر می پسندم.
بگذار دستی
زنگ ساعت را خاموش کند
تا کاربارِگان دمی بیشتر
در بستر بمانند.
اما شاعران و خانه بدوشان
در زیر آسمانِ گرفته
از نهانگاه های خود در می آیند
و در دو جهت مخالف
گذرگاه ساحلی را می پیمایند:
یکی بسوی دریا
برای یافتن شعر تازه
و دیگری بسوی شهر
برای یافتن صبحانه.

June Gloom

June is the cloudiest month:
At midnight, in Santa Monica,
It puts a velvet blanket over the city
And at dawn
It hangs a curtain of fog
In front of the sunshine.
I like June’s sorrow
And prefer the ambiguity of clouds
To the directness of the sun.
Let a hand
Silence alarm clocks
So that workaholics
Can stay in bed a moment longer.
But poets and the homeless
Emerge from their hideouts
Under the overcast sky
And walk the coastal path
In two opposite directions:
One toward the sea
To find new poems
And the other toward town
To find their breakfast.
