هر شب از مهتابی
به گفتگوی موجها گوش میدهیم
و هر روز، دو بار
به دریا میرویم
به گوشهای پاک و سایهدار
کنار خرسنگهای لاهینا*.
بامداد آب به سینه میرسد
و شامگاه به زانوان.
من در آب غوطه میخورم
بیواهمه از مارماهیها
که زیر خرسنگها خانه کردهاند.
دلدارم وندی کنار من
در آب راه میرود
و گاهی با دیدن نهنگی از دور
غریو میکشد.
فصل جهش نهنگهاست.
ما دیگر تنها
به گفتگوی موجها گوش نمیدهیم
خود، جزیی از آن شدهایم.
با آب، پسوپیش میرویم
بیدغدغهی گذشته و آینده
تا هنگامی که لاکپشتهای کلان
ما را به ساحل بخوانند.

We Go to the Sea

We Go to the Sea

Every night from our balcony
we listen to waves conversing
And twice every day
We go to the sea
To a clean, shady place
By the bolders in Lahaina.
At dawn, the water reaches our chests
And in the evening to our knees.
I immerse myself in the water
Fearless of the eels
Nesting under the bolders.
My love, Wendy, wades
In the water next to me
And sometimes hurrahs
Upon seeing a whale from afar.
This is the season of whales breaching.
We no longer only listen
To the conversation of the waves
We become part of it
Moving with the water back and forth
Unmindful of past and future
Until giant turtles
Call us from the shore.
